For over 800 years Japanese Zen Buddhist monks have been using matcha green tea as a meditational drink. They drank the matcha green tea during formal tea ceremonies using wonderful tea sets.
More recently the rest of the World have started to realise the benefits of this superfood too. More and more people are switching from coffee to matcha as the L-theanine and natural caffeine in matcha can give the ability to focus and concentrate without the side effects you would get from coffee. L-Theanine also has a calming, relaxing effect and slows the release of tea-caffeine making it more intense and longer lasting.
